If I'm a licensed insurance agent contained by Michigan how do I set up insurance companies as an independant agent?

You find a company willing to appoint you. With no experience, it's going to be almost impossible - you'll hold to build a network of contacts, and a book of business - working for another independent agent for a few years.
If you have experience, call for all your marketing reps, and see who's looking to take on agents surrounded by your area, make sure you hold the numbers on your current book of business - size and loss ratios, and retention rates.
Answers: Use google to find carrier doing business on your state. then visit their websites if you see a brokers correlation then you can contact them about getting appointed. If they don't hold a brokers link the probably don't use brokers.
It also depends on the type of insurance you are talking give or take a few, Life, health, P&C or?
