Anyone work at a restoration company....?
I am a secratary at a restoration company and it sucks! Insurance agencys are screwing all the homeowners in america (rising water for example) they don't tell people what they are or arent covered with!
What's the question again?
When people BUY insurance, they don't want to HEAR what's covered, they want what's CHEAP. They DON'T want to buy flood insurance, then when the FLOOD happens (which is what rising water is) they get all bent out of shape!
Look at the messages on this board - most of the people asking about insurance don't say, where can I get the broadest coverage? They say, where can I find the cheapest insurance? If you ask them to define "best" (as in, which is the best insurance company) they say, best is CHEAPEST.
With insurance, you get what you pay for. If you can't be bothered to ask questions & shop around for a knowledgable agent, then you have to chalk up uncovered claims to "stupid tax" or "lazy tax".
Every single insured who purchases a policy has it in writing exactly what is covered and what is not. That's their insurance policy. There is even a section in homeowners policies called "Perils Insured Against" and another one called "Exclusions" that spell this out. Those headings are even in large, bold print.
No homeowners policies covers flood. Period.
You might also be interested to know that insurance companies don't write the policies they sell. They are written by a very few companies (2 mainly), then approved by insurance regulators in each state (employed by the government, not insurers), before they are ever sold to an insured. The language in insurance policies has been repeatedly tried in courts for all sorts of issues and met all legal standards applicable.
Flood is covered by the government because it is not something insurance is designed to cover. It is catastrophic in nature, meaning without governmental subsidization, it would probably be more costly than consumers would care to pay for, and thus wouldn't. The government stepped in, came up with building codes to protect homeowners, flood zone maps to delineate who is in a flood plain and who is not, and regulations for communities to observe in new developement. As part of the plan, adjusters at insurance companies work the actual claim for the government for those who are INSURED BY THE FLOOD PLAN.
Now where in that do you see any attempt by insurers to screw all homeowners in America?
I have to agree with everyone here. I go over every policy with my insureds, explaining what is and isn't covered. Many times I get the "I don't have time to do over this right now" attitude. I try to get people to sit down but there is a mentality out there that if you pay any type of premium to an insurance company, everything should be covered.
People are told, in most cases, what is covered udner their policy. They chose not to listen.
I AM A INSURANCE AGENT....WITH Allstate and I cover everything with my client. But your right not all agents do
