My children's father passed away.Social Security and insurance press...?

My two young children's father passed away. I know that they will get SS benefits but does that tight that they automatically get state funded insurance close to the CHIP that so many states hold? I have tried to phone call the offices and I hold to wait on the appoinment, I get no info over the phone. I don't want them to go much longer short any insurance. I wondered if anyone here knew or have experience with any of this. All information is appreciated.

Answers:   No, they don't automatically take CHIP. They "might" qualify for medicare. You're going to have to dally for your appointment, to get state specific information.

Each state have different eligibility for their state funded insurance. You will need to contact SS to apply for your children's father's SS benefits and probability are, you will also need to apply separately for medicaid so contact your local Human Health Services or similar dept to find out how.

Or google your state and medicaid-many of the states enjoy on-line applications and instructions on how to submit the applications.
