Plumber tells me chain is broken in to & must be replaced.

Most companies do not cover this. I enjoy heard of ancestors taking this cost to their township and in some cases getting some money out of them. That is not assured. I know the new Allstate Homeowners policy have an endorsement that can be added to provide this coverage.

Very difficult to answer. Depending upon the insurance coverage. Some general public only cover the home and the stock there contained by and not the sewer lines. Chances very remote.
