This would depend on what lines you want to write.
If you want only existence and health, they are a dime a dozen. If you want to write P&C, that's a horse of a different color.
For vivacity and health, you can nickname your state insurance commissioners office and catch a list of companies licensed to do business surrounded by your state. Contact as many as you want to direct their recruiting tackle. Compare them and make up your mind on which ones to represent. Submit the broadsheet work.
For P&C, it's very difficult for a neophyte to acquire contracts. If you've been contained by the P&C business for awhile, you might have a kismet, depending on loss ratio experience, and how much business you have on paperwork.
