Will home owners insurance pay for repairs if it was your ex that did the damage to your home?

Going through a divorce and the ex vandelized the house before leaving it.
Not if his name is on the policy and/or he has ownership interest in the house.
If he is still on the deed as part owner then probably not... but if you are on by yourself then you can go after HIS insurance and they will have to pay.

Either way contact the police and file a report IT IS FREE ! and jackasses like that need to be taken down !

Good luck ! : )

Hmmm. I would think that if you are still married they would not because technically he is an insured and intentional acts are usually excluded.

Property loss consultants who work for you, not the insurance company. They would be the best to answer this question for you.

Good luck!
Sounds like it was, technically, still his house too when the damage was done. The police won't do anything - it's not a crime to vandalize your own house. And HO insurance won't cover it either, as others have explained.

This could be a factor in your divorce settlement, however. If he has damaged, destroyed or intentionally reduced the value of community property, he should be held financially responsible. In other words, the cost to repair the damage should come out of his part of the settlement. Hope you have a good lawyer.
I would call the cops and report it and file a claim against him if it was me!!
Is husband listed as named insured on policy?
Is husband listed as owner or co-owner of home?
If he was niether at time of vandalism, then you can flikely collect but likely after a very long SIU investigation by the home owner's carrier.

However, you'd better have a police report.
Since he was your husband, lived in the house, and intentionally damaged the house, the answer is no..it's not covered.
