Is it normal to be informed by a busniness that a request can't be granted?
Issue: made request that life insurance company change my beneficiary, didn't occurr to me that it couldn't be done.
I've made such requests before, of my previous insurance agent. It had always been a simple task. I'm upset not that they didn't do it, but that they never informed that they couldn't (for months until I recieved my yearly statement). In my 30+ years of doing business I have never had such lack of notice from businesses. How could I expect differently from them? I have made other requests that were not granted and was not informed those times either. Am I right in expecting to be informed? I asked for a record of my transactions once, also, to learn the origin of a premium loan that I didn't remember having. They said they could go back only 2 years, but didn't say why. Is this normal for the insurance business?
This does not sound appropriate to me. As long as I am paying you for a service, I expect to be kept informed about the service. When I ask for information about your service (again for which I'm paying) I expect answers. If I want to change my beneficiary, I need to know if there are time frames within which that can be done. Do not tell me I cannot change the beneficiary. My life may have changed...I might have gotten a divorce, my previous beneficiary might have died... I have the right to change so if you have "rules" that regulate the change, you'd best be showing them to me in writing and preferably at the time when I first purchased your service.
Sounds to me like you need to investigate this company.
Only the policyholder can make that request. They only owe a duty to the policyholder, to notify them of the change.
It is not abnormal to only be able to print out records going back two years - but YOU can always check YOUR PERSONAL records going back as far as you want.
Usually your agent could get the records for you, if they want to keep you as a client. From personal experience, I do NOT bend over backwards for a client unless I make money off of them - in other words, if you are a high maintenance, low commission client, I'd rather you put your business elsewhere - which sounds like it might be what's happening with your account.
