Will a medical claims gift bring to the fore my friend's rates?
I fell in my friend's apartment and broke my foot. My robustness insurance has salaried for most of my bills. But I had to own surgery and the uncovered expenses have added up to over $2000! I want to breed a medical payment claim on her renter's insurance but since I decide I'd close to to know if it will adversly affect her rates.
Answers:
Well, likely for a renter, they lone have $250 or $500 of "medical payments" coverage - the no glitch coverage. If you want to get MORE than that from her, you'll own to sue her for it, and prove that she was slipshod. That means, it can't be you anyone careless, she have to CAUSE the accident.
If you sue her and win, or even if she files newly the medical payments (note- you can't file it, SHE have to - you can't file on someone else's policy, you own to SUE them), she'll lose a loss free discount, and depending on what state she lives in, can be "downrated". Worse, if she requirements to buy a house in the subsequent 5 years or so, that claim will follow her, and she'll have a not easy time buying homeowners insurance.
Yes, she will have a claims history and be rate up next time her policy renews. The rate up for most policies will be for three years and will follow her even if she change companies. If you have a clothed company and a decent agent you can ring up the agent without repercussions beside an inquiry to find out how much of an increase to expect.
