Go talk to a local insurance agent (or 2 or 3).

No one here can give you anything close to a precise, worthwhile answer unless you provide a lot of personal information. Even then, you will have to go through the same revealing process when you apply for insurance.

Go talk to an agent.
you try this site you get full information
If you are in California, I will be more than happy to provide you with a free, no obligation coverage comparison. I am an insurance agent with Farmers Insurance.

Your income is irrelevant - just like when buying car insurance, the price isn't related to what you make, it's related to what you buy.

If you're healthy, and a nonsmoker, a 20 year term policy for $100,000 would likely cost you about $2000 a year, at 40. It goes up a lot, so "late 40's" could mean your closest birthday is 50, which would make it, oh, maybe twice that.

Could be cheaper to pay for your funeral by just saving up what you would have paid.

You'll have to contact a local, independent agent to get an exact quote.
