Roofing license, bonded and insured?

Does anyone know if you have to have a state license to be a roofer in Oklahoma? Also how do you go about getting bonded and insured? Are there things you must have, ie license...would help if anyone knew.

Answers:
anyone can be a roofer and no liscence is required. but insured and bonded firms are more trustworthy. the bonding is nothing less trhan a guarantee that the job will be done correctly. insurance covers the purchaser from any harm caused by whoever is doing any work. most companies will name the buyer as an additional insured, but only if you require it. it doesn't cost them very much, and it keeps you from being held liable for any harm to a company's employee doing work on your property.
as with anyone who gets hurt on your property, you can be held liable for damages. when the company doing work on your property is required to have you named as a co-insured, you are covered under his liability policy.
Call the city building inspector to find out - it might be on a city by city basis.

An insurance agent will help you get insured, and can help you get bonded, AND can explain what the bond is - because as a roofer, you probably don't need one - it's not going to do what you think it's going to do - whatever that is.
