That is called hibernation. You can adjust the settings through the control panel. Click Start, Click Settings, Click Control Panel, Click on display, click on blind saver, click on vigour saving features of monitor. Set the power assignment to what you want (home/office desk or portable/laptop), and set the time for the monitor and hard disks to step to sleep.
You want to adjust your computer's hardware settings. Then it will hibernate. You don't want sleep mode unless you are in an organization or somewhere that others might look at sensitive items. If you want sleep mode, find the control panel that deals near that and select it, then pick out the snag you need. Then, if it go to sleep, you'll need to type contained by your password. Otherwise look under spirit savings or some such article and select a protocol for that. This might be under display settings.
