What site would I move about to to find out if my departed mother gone an insurance policy etc?
There is no such site. You would need to look through her personal history.
if you pull up an insurance companies site, they will sometimes each enjoy their own search for policies that may be unclaimed. But to be honest, if you think that she did own a policy, but can not locate any paperwork that has the companies name or policy numbers on it, you're going to own to start making calls. There are MANY different insurance companies out there, so it could pinch awhile. Also, if you do manage to find the policy or the company that has the policy. They may report you it lapsed, you need to ask them what the date it lapsed was. If your mother died beforehand the date it lapsed, then you should still get the money. Also, if you dont' find anything very soon. and then like 5 yrs from very soon you do find the paperwork. If you can prove(death cert) that she died before it lapsed, then should still seize the money. In my office we had a woman telephone call because she was cleaning her attic about 7 yrs after her husband died and she found policies on him. She have no idea about them and of late called to ask. As it turned out, they had lapsed because of nonpayment. That be due to the fact that the man had died and so be obviously not paying for them. The death cert proved that they be inforce when he died and she was given the money.
